Most people consider their bedroom to be their sanctuary. It's the place we go when we want to relax after a hard day at work, read a book, or take a nap. Guests know the unspoken rule to stay out, but just because no one else will enter your bedroom doesn't mean it can't be aesthetically appealing. 

When choosing your bedroom design, think about what your individual style is. Are you more into the modern look? Do you like more traditional decorating? How about eclectic? Once these decisions are made, your designing process will become easier. This allows you to have a direction and guidelines for your decorating. Keep in mind that you can mix the styles too. This would be called Bohemian, but you should remember that you should not mix more than two design styles. Your spaces always needs direction and unity.

Modern

This bedroom above is an example of modern. It shows clean lines and geometric shapes with solid colors. The main colors chosen for this palette are light blue and chocolate brown with a touch of green brought in as an accent color through the rug and the painting. Everything is basically symmetrical in this room, giving a nice balanced feel to it. The designer chose to have a large headboard in this case to draw the attention up and make the room feel taller than it is. The same illusion is created with the floor-to-ceiling curtains. An organic element is brought it with the sculpture to the left. This softens the feel of the room while also creating a juxtaposition to the solid lines of the design.

 

Traditional

If you find yourself leaning toward more of a traditional style, you're in luck. This style allows you to incorporate antiques, which are great hand-me-downs. The furniture is very large and wooden. This bed is almost a canopy, and if you wanted to you could drape some light fabric over and around the iron bars going across the top. The heavy furniture becomes the main focus of the room, but it is softened by the fabrics. Light fluffy pillows are used on the bed and sheer curtains are used on the windows. The cover will usually have an elaborate design as well. Velvets, silks, laces are all used in this style as well as different colors of woods and furniture. Try a fainting couch in the corner or a reading chair with a foot rest like this photo above.

Eclectic

Eclectic may be the most fun bedroom design. Eclectic literally means drawn from multiple sources. In design, it allows you to reuse what you already have and really show your personality. It allows you to be the most creative, and you save money because you do not have to purchase new things for your new bedroom design. Because it allows for so much creativity, it mainly focuses around artwork. As you can see from this picture, they have art hanging above the headboard of the bed. Instead of stopping there, they took it a step further and created their own 'frames' on the walls to draw more attention to the art. It also incorporates the white up high on the wall instead of leaving it all on the floor and making the room feel heavy. This design style permits you to re-purpose things such as lamps and furniture by painting them and adding pieces to make them unique to your bedroom.
