Darfur Pics
Darfur, a region in the western part of Sudan, has been under immense criticism for the potential genocide committed by the Sudanese government and Janjaweed militant in the area. It all started as a simple desire for land, as one theory proposes, which claims that due to the desertification of the land in Sudan, water and resources, which are more abundant in the Darfur region, are needed in order to assure survival for a number of people. In order to get these resources, the people of Darfur have been raped, killed or otherwise displaced in order to clear them out. These reasons caused the spawning of the war in Darfur, which has killed an uncountable number of citizens, and sent others fleeing out of the region for safety.

Darfur is a region in western Sudan which has been at war since 2002. The conflict, unlike many other wars the region has seen, is seen as an ethnic conflict instead of religious. The region is a more desired area of the country due to dwindling resources in the country. Similar conflict has been seen all over Africa since the end of colonialism, leading to several cases of genocide on the continent. |

In this Darfur pic, you can see one of the refugee camps which have sprung up across the country and in neighboring Chad. The camps are difficult to live in, with women being the target of rape and men the target of murders in the night. These are considered the only safe haven for many of Darfur's citizens. |

The state of the refugee camps in Darfur have prompted international response from various human rights groups, but many have been removed from the region by the Sudanese government. |

The conflict is perpetrated by a combination of the Sudanese government and Janjaweed Rebels. The Janjaweed are a group of Afro-Arab nomads from the northern regions of Sudan. The run raids in the region frequently. |

Many of the dead are simply left to rot. This Darfur pics shows a rebel walking past several of the dead. It is unknown what killed them, either violence, the environment, or famine. |

The Sudanese military denies working with the Janjaweed rebels in the Darfur region, yet other observers in the area report that they are both working together in the area. |

One of the strategies used by the military and the rebels is scorched earth. After everyone has either been killed or forced out of the area with threats of death, everything is burned. Crops, homes, huts, everything is burnt to the ground. |
