Find Pictures and Photographs
There are several different types of pictures and photographs and even more different types of photography. Photography is the art of capturing a moment in time on some kind of photosensitive surface. These photosensitive surfaces take the light put on them and create an image of what is being shot. Thanks to the switch to the digital age, many of these photographs can now be found online, and with digital photography, it is now even easier to get your pictures and photographs online.
The Difference Between Pictures and Photographs
By definition, a picture is a representation of of an object through an art form, be it a drawing, painting, or photograph. A photograph is a picture that is made through the use of photography. Photograph is the preferred term used by photographers, since many associate the phrase picture with a piece of art achieved through drawing or painting.
The Different Types of Photography
There are essentially two different types of photography, with each type producing an image through different means. The two main types of photography are digital and film. While many photographers prefer to use the film method since it provides a more hand on approach in the development process and requires more knowledge and skill to perfect, many have started to make the transition to digital photography.
- Film- the photograph is transferred onto a piece of film, typically made of celluloid, plastic, or another similar substance that is coated with a photosensitive material. These photosensitive materials create an image on the film from the light it is exposed to.
- Digital- the film is replaced with digital storage, and a light sensor does the work the film used to. This allows for the instant review of photographs. Digital photography instantly creates a picture in a digital format.
In addition to these two major forms off photography, there are several different shooting styles that the photographer can use. Each of these styles are representative of a genre of shooting.
- Black and White- Where many types of photography produce a full color image, black and white photography create an image with out color, using a grayscale to represent color.
- Color- A full spectrum of colors will be visible on the pictures and photographs. Color photography provides an image that is closure to what the viewer would see in real life.
- Art Photography- Artistic photography is the production of photographic images solely for the purpose of art. These types of images are more commonly used to create an attractive image that the viewer will enjoy. It can involve the posing of subjects in a controlled environment or the use of unique angles of more common objects.
- Photojournalism- This involve the representation of real life with no altering by the photographer. This is the common photography you will find in newspapers, magazines, and educational materials.
- Astrophotography- Pictures taken of space, the stars, or any of the common celestial bodies.
- Macro- In depth, close-up photography that produces detailed images.
- Landscape- The photography of landscapes and environments.
